Prashant S. Iyengar

Sri. Prashant S. Iyengar (Prashantji) is the son of Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar and one of the world’s most respected yoga and philosophy teachers.

He is presently the director of Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Pune, India and an authority on Yoga. He teaches and refines this constantly evolving method at the RIMYI. Teachers and practitioners from all over the world come regularly to hone skills for their own development and to take back to their own Iyengar Yoga communities.

He has a very unique approach in his yoga classes in which he wants the student to experience his/her own body as a laboratory. He asks the student to practice in such a way that he is not doing pose after pose after pose mechanically, soon losing sight of their value. Prashantji would guide the student to be extremely observant in the asanas practice. He worked a lot with transforming through breathing. Prashant is also known by his way of expressing and conveying yoga concepts by creating his own terminology in English which may not have a dictionary definition.

His knowledge about the scriptures and the ancient texts makes learning Yoga very interesting. He is also an accomplished violinist.

His audio recordings on the yoga sutras are as follows:

  • Anatomy and Physiology through the prism of yoga
  • Asanas and the Panchamabhutas
  • Chakras
  • Yoga and the new millennium
  • Pranayama
  • Manus
